Here is the reading plan and intro for the twenty-seventh week, with day one being Friday, July 2:
This week we finish Lamentations and start Ezekiel! |
Hey reading community,
You have officially crossed the halfway mark. Well done! Reading the Bible in one year takes serious dedication, and we applaud your effort. This week, we’ll look at two rich yet somber books, Lamentations and Ezekiel.
Lamentations is a unique book that contains five poetic reflections on the siege and destruction of Jerusalem and exile of the Jewish people by Babylon. It represents the collective voice of Israel crying out to God in protest, confusion, and the desire to understand why something this catastrophic has happened.
The second and much larger book you will open this week is Ezekiel. Ezekiel was in exile during the destruction of Jerusalem, so he provides us with a different perspective than you get from any of the other prophets living in Israel before or during the exile. What is most interesting about Ezekiel is the nature of God’s call on Ezekiel to become a prophet, which is what this week’s blog post is all about!
