a prayer for today

a prayer for today

How are you all doing today? How are you holding up?

Truth be told, I woke up this morning with a level of weariness and grief. If we ever thought we were a divided nation, it is even more evident now as we watch it unfold on the screens before us.

Psalm 46 seems fitting words for today…

God is our refuge and strength,
    a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change,
    though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea;
though its waters roar and foam,
    though the mountains tremble with its tumult.Selah

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
    the holy habitation of the Most High.
God is in the midst of the city; it shall not be moved;
    God will help it when the morning dawns.
The nations are in an uproar, the kingdoms totter;
    he utters his voice, the earth melts.
The Lord of hosts is with us;
    the God of Jacob is our refuge.Selah

Come, behold the works of the Lord;
    see what desolations he has brought on the earth.
He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
    he breaks the bow, and shatters the spear;
    he burns the shields with fire.
“Be still, and know that I am God!
    I am exalted among the nations,
    I am exalted in the earth.”
The Lord of hosts is with us;
    the God of Jacob is our refuge.Selah

Additionally, there is a community in Northern Ireland called the Corrymeela Community, they shared this prayer yesterday that seems fitting to share today.

God of those who agree with us,

God of those who don’t:

keep us from dividing the world

into us and them,

for or against,

good and bad.

Remind us that humans

and human systems are always

more complex than the binary

choice of on/off, up/down.

As you have met us in the reality

of a living, breathing human life,

may we meet each other again

as three-dimensional people

and not as another yes or no.

Knowing that we have a lot of work ahead of us…today, I am going to breathe…be still … and remember God is still God. I will allow God to breathe life, peace, a voice for hope, justice, compassion and love into my life in hopes that I can strive to live and lean into each day… letting the justice, compassion, love and peace and hope flow through and begin with me. How will you live and lean into your day today?

the peace of Christ be with you today and always.
