Readings for June 2, 2020

Here are your readings for the day. They come in two forms… a written form and audio form… you are invited to read or listen as best fits what you need for today. Be well, stay home, stay safe and go wash your hands, and if you must go out…wear your mask!

As you read or listen, you are invited to breathe in … and out. Settle in and listen to God’s Word. How is God speaking to you today? Pray your thoughts, desires, needs and feelings from your meditation, enjoy the presence of your Lord and Savior. May your heart be nourished and grounded for today.

Psalm 116:12-19

What shall I return to the Lord
for all his bounty to me?
I will lift up the cup of salvation
and call on the name of the Lord,
I will pay my vows to the Lord
in the presence of all his people.
Precious in the sight of the Lord
is the death of his faithful ones.
O Lord, I am your servant;
I am your servant, the child of your serving girl.
    You have loosed my bonds.
I will offer to you a thanksgiving sacrifice
and call on the name of the Lord.
I will pay my vows to the Lord
in the presence of all his people,
in the courts of the house of the Lord,
    in your midst, O Jerusalem.
Praise the Lord!

Acts 3:1-8a

One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, at three o’clock in the afternoon. And a man lame from birth was being carried in. People would lay him daily at the gate of the temple called the Beautiful Gate so that he could ask for alms from those entering the temple. When he saw Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked them for alms. Peter looked intently at him, as did John, and said, “Look at us.” And he fixed his attention on them, expecting to receive something from them. But Peter said, “I have no silver or gold, but what I have I give you; in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, stand up and walk.” And he took him by the right hand and raised him up; and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong. Jumping up, he stood and began to walk, and he entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God.

FSConnect prayers for the day:

Tuesday, June 2, 2020 for the families who are grieving for the unjust death of their loved ones, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and so many others. Pray for the communities who have been ravished by violence. For justice, for voices to be heard, for people to be seen, and healing.

Prayer for the day*:

Giver of every good gift, you never send your people off empty-handed but always outfit them with good things — your guiding presence in the fiery cloud, the manna that rained down from heaven on the wilderness trek. Thank you for pouring out your Holy Spirit and all his gifts for the journeys you send us on. Make us freely generous with all your gifts to bless the world, the very reason for with you sent us. Amen.

*Today’s prayer is taken from Heidelberg Catechism Q&A 51 as written in Seeking God’s Face, Praying with the Bible through the Year.

May the peace of Christ be with you today and always, amen.
