Readings for May 26, 2020

Here are your readings for the day. They come in two forms… a written form and audio form… you are invited to read or listen as best fits what you need for today. Be well, stay home, stay safe and go wash your hands, and if you must go out…wear your mask!

As you read or listen, you are invited to breathe in … and out. Settle in and listen to God’s Word. Is there a word or idea that stirred with you? Linger over it and give it your attention, is there something about the reading you’d like to ask God about? Pray your life and thoughts to God. May your heart be nourished and grounded for today.

Psalm 109:1-5, 26-31

Do not be silent, O God of my praise.
For wicked and deceitful mouths are opened against me,
    speaking against me with lying tongues.
They beset me with words of hate,
    and attack me without cause.
In return for my love they accuse me,
    even while I make prayer for them.
So they reward me evil for good,
    and hatred for my love.

Help me, O Lord my God!
    Save me according to your steadfast love.
Let them know that this is your hand;
    you, O Lord, have done it.
Let them curse, but you will bless.
    Let my assailants be put to shame; may your servant be glad.
May my accusers be clothed with dishonor;
    may they be wrapped in their own shame as in a mantle.
With my mouth I will give great thanks to the Lord;
    I will praise him in the midst of the throng.
For he stands at the right hand of the needy,
    to save them from those who would condemn them to death.

1 John 5:9-13

If we receive human testimony, the testimony of God is greater; for this is the testimony of God that he has testified to his Son. Those who believe in the Son of God have the testimony in their hearts. Those who do not believe in God have made him a liar by not believing in the testimony that God has given concerning his Son. And this is the testimony: God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.

I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.

FSConnect Prayers for the day:

Pray for the Elders, Deacons and the many Ministry Teams who are meeting to keep us moving forward, as we continue to prayerfully discern and make many decisions to provide safe and best practices that will be in place for when we are able to meet in person again.

Prayer for the day*:

Loving God, in upper rooms and downtown condos, in suburban bedrooms and country churches, your people wait and pray. Send your Spirit that I may know the truth revealed in Christ, that I may believe he is the Son of God and experience life in his name. Amen.

*Today’s prayer is taken from Canons of Dort 3/4.11 as written in Seeking God’s Face, Praying with the Bible through the Year.

May the peace of Christ be with you today and always, amen.
