Readings for May 18, 2020

Here are your readings for the day. They come in two forms… a written form and audio form… you are invited to read or listen as best fits what you need for today. Be well, stay home, stay safe and go wash your hands, and if you must go out…wear your mask!

As you read or listen, you are invited to breathe in … and out. Settle in and listen to God’s Word. How is God speaking to you today? Pray your thoughts, desires, needs and feelings from your meditation, enjoy the presence of your Lord and Savior. May your heart be nourished and grounded for today.

Psalm 101:1-3, 6-8

I will sing of loyalty and of justice;
    to you, O Lord, I will sing.
I will study the way that is blameless.
    When shall I attain it?

I will walk with integrity of heart
    within my house;
I will not set before my eyes
    anything that is base.

I hate the work of those who fall away;
    it shall not cling to me.

I will look with favor on the faithful in the land,
    so that they may live with me;
whoever walks in the way that is blameless
    shall minister to me.

 No one who practices deceit
    shall remain in my house;
no one who utters lies
    shall continue in my presence.

Morning by morning I will destroy
    all the wicked in the land,
cutting off all evildoers
    from the city of the Lord.

John 15:1-8

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinegrower. He removes every branch in me that bears no fruit. Every branch that bears fruit he prunes to make it bear more fruit. You have already been cleansed by the word that I have spoken to you. Abide in me as I abide in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing. Whoever does not abide in me is thrown away like a branch and withers; such branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask for whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples.

FSConnect Prayers for the day:

Monday, May 18, 2020 As life slowly begins to re-open and move forward, there are still many lives impacted by the coronavirus on a daily basis. Pray for the individuals and families who are impacted: whether it be with positive testing, recovery, grief and loss, financial. Pray that as we move forward, we will all be mindful and continue to remain safe.

Prayer for the day*:

Creator God, garden my life – turn it over, cultivate it, and make it ready for the gospel seeds to take root. And in quiet darkness let the gospel do its work, slowly but powerful, stirring up life in my heart, increasing joy, strengthening all your graces until shoots of new life rise and good fruit bursts forth on the branches of my life, a life beautiful for you and a blessing to others. Amen.

*Today’s prayer is taken from Westminster Large Catechism Q&A 75 as written in Seeking God’s Face, Praying with the Bible through the Year.

May the peace of Christ be with you today and always, amen.
