Audio readings for May 15, 2020

Here are your readings for the day. They come in two forms… a written form and audio form… you are invited to read or listen as best fits what you need for today. Be well, stay home, stay safe and go wash your hands, and if you must go out…wear your mask!

As you read or listen, you are invited to breathe in … and out. Settle in and listen to God’s Word. What is it that you hear today? How is God speaking to you today? What word or phrase jumps out at you… allow yourself to sit with this word or phrase and take it with you throughout the day, letting your heart respond to God in prayer. May your heart be nourished and grounded for today.

Psalm 98

 O sing to the Lord a new song,
    for he has done marvelous things.
His right hand and his holy arm
    have gotten him victory.
 The Lord has made known his victory;
    he has revealed his vindication in the sight of the nations.
 He has remembered his steadfast love and faithfulness
    to the house of Israel.
All the ends of the earth have seen
    the victory of our God.

Let the sea roar, and all that fills it;
    the world and those who live in it.
Let the floods clap their hands;
    let the hills sing together for joy
at the presence of the Lord, for he is coming
    to judge the earth.
He will judge the world with righteousness,
    and the peoples with equity.

John 14:5-11

Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you know me, you will know my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”

Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.” Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and you still do not know me? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own; but the Father who dwells in me does his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; but if you do not, then believe me because of the works themselves.

FSConnect Prayer for the day:

Offer a prayer of thanksgiving and protection for the many frontline workers. At 7pm join in the chorus of appreciation with the church bells that will ring and standing outside, make some noise, bang some pots and pans! Let’s show our gratitude for their work!

Prayer for the day*:

Jesus our Savior, you don’t give us detached morality, depersonalized dogma, or a tidy set of principles. You won’t allow for that because you’ve made it all personal – you are the way, the truth, and the life. help me to reorient my whole life around you; show me all the ways you are that I need and seek. Amen.

*Today’s prayer is taken from Belgic Confession 26 as written in Seeking God’s Face, Praying with the Bible through the Year.

May the peace of Christ be with you today and always, amen.
