Audio Readings for May 14, 2020

Here are your readings for the day. They come in two forms… a written form and audio form… you are invited to read or listen as best fits what you need for today. Be well, stay home, stay safe and go wash your hands, and if you must go out…wear your mask!

As you read or listen, you are invited to breathe in … and out. Settle in and listen to God’s Word. What is it that you hear today? How is God speaking to you today? What word or phrase jumps out at you… allow yourself to sit with this word or phrase and take it with you throughout the day, letting your heart respond to God in prayer. May your heart be nourished and grounded for today.

Psalm 97

The Lord is king! Let the earth rejoice;
    let the many coastlands be glad!
 Clouds and thick darkness are all around him;
    righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.
 Fire goes before him,
    and consumes his adversaries on every side.
 His lightnings light up the world;
    the earth sees and trembles.
 The mountains melt like wax before the Lord,
    before the Lord of all the earth.

 The heavens proclaim his righteousness;
    and all the peoples behold his glory.

The Lord loves those who hate evil;
    he guards the lives of his faithful;
    he rescues them from the hand of the wicked.
Light dawns for the righteous,
    and joy for the upright in heart.
Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous,
    and give thanks to his holy name!

Matthew 28:16-20

Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

FSConnect Prayer for the day:

We are blessed to have many small businesses and locally owned shops and restaurants in this area. Pray for these businesses as they navigate the challenges of being open with limitations or shut down. Do you have a favorite locally owned place? Send them a note to say thank you for their presence in our community and that you support them!

Prayer for the day*:

Living God, why am I shy to venture out and make disciples? Your words are an invitation to experience a fetching way of life. teach me that following Jesus is not a spectator sport but a full contact experience, joining with your Holy Spirit who is already at work in the world. send me with courage, knowing that your mission is not dependent on my persuasive words but your Holy Spirit’s powerful work. Amen.

*Today’s prayer is taken from Canon of Dort 3/4.11 as written in Seeking God’s Face, Praying with the Bible through the Year.

May the peace of Christ be with you today and always, amen.
