Here are your readings for the day. They come in two forms… a written form and audio form… you are invited to read or listen as best fits what you need for today. Be well, stay home, stay safe and go wash your hands, and if you must go out…wear your mask!
As you read or listen, you are invited to breathe in … and out. Settle in and listen to God’s Word. What is it that you hear today? How is God speaking to you today? What word or phrase jumps out at you… allow yourself to sit with this word or phrase and take it with you throughout the day, letting your heart respond to God in prayer. May your heart be nourished and grounded for today.
O come, let us sing to the Lord;
let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!
Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving;
let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!
For the Lord is a great God,
and a great King above all gods.
In his hand are the depths of the earth;
the heights of the mountains are his also.
The sea is his, for he made it,
and the dry land, which his hands have formed.
O come, let us worship and bow down,
let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!
For he is our God,
and we are the people of his pasture,
and the sheep of his hand.
1 John 4:7-16
Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love. God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Beloved, since God loved us so much, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God lives in us, and his love is perfected in us.
By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and do testify that the Father has sent his Son as the Savior of the world. God abides in those who confess that Jesus is the Son of God, and they abide in God. So we have known and believe the love that God has for us.
God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them.
FSConnect Prayer for the Day:
For recovery. As we watch the number of folks recovering from COVID19 rise, pray for their recovery, as they regain strength and their bodies work to return to a healthier state. In a different light, with recovery: there are many individuals trying to navigate this time as they recover from various addictions in which support groups have taken on a different look. Pray for strength, connections and support as they take one day at a time.
Prayers for the day*:
Lord God, plunge me into your love so that I can love you with all that I am. I know I’m asking you for the very thing I’ll give right back to you, but my heart feels small and shrunken; I struggle to love well and even love at all. Immerse me in your love so that my heart, soul, strength, and mind find their true home, and I find the room in my heart to love my neighbor. Amen.
*Today’s prayer is taken from Westminster Shorter Catechism 42 as written in Seeking God’s Face, Praying with the Bible through the Year.
May the peace of Christ be with you today and always, amen.
